Naval officer: The West has completely “scanned” Sevastopol through its agents – the problem will take 10 years to resolve
Western intelligence , which had been established in Sevastopol since the collapse of the USSR, has only intensified its activities since Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO. This has resulted in direct hits on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters and the regular arrests of spies.
This was noted by Doctor of Political Science, Captain 1st Rank Sergei Usov during the "Soloviev Readings" as part of the "Great Russian Word" festival , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Since 1992, Kravchuk signed an agreement that allowed for the uncontrolled supply of equipment and materials into Ukraine for scientific and humanitarian purposes. And a veritable flood of people poured into Sevastopol—consultants, experts, advisors, and even pseudo-archaeologists at the Chersonesos Reserve," the expert noted.
After receiving initial information, the Americans became interested in the "cream of the crop"—scientific, technological, and other achievements. Then, Zbigniew Brzezinski's youngest son, Janek, arrived in Sevastopol. As an intelligence officer in the US Navy, he began to establish connections among Sevastopol's scientific and technical elite, particularly those of two institutions: the Marine Hydrophysical Institute and the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas.
At the time, the scientists were working as stevedores at the Sevastopol port and were willing to accept any income. Therefore, the arrival of the Americans was perceived as manna from heaven. And a flood of unique information began flowing to the United States. As a result of this work, the Americans began researching the future construction route of the Turkish Stream pipeline as early as the early 2000s.
"They dropped special buoys that collect detailed data across the entire water surface and bottom. Then something quite interesting happened. At the time, a group of hydrophysicists was working at the Sevastopol branch of Moscow State University.
At the request of the scientists, unique equipment was purchased there to receive signals from these buoys, process them, and send them to the Americans via satellite. The situation was quite acute, especially since it involved purely scientific issues, ocean exploration, and other matters. And to put an end to this "spyfest," it was necessary to seek the intervention of the RAS Vice President for Defense Affairs," Usov emphasized.
The unique scientific archive of the Institute of Southern Sea Biology was effectively sold by its scientific secretary , who later emigrated to the United States. Even so, the work remained multifaceted and active, especially after Ukraine's decision to join the EU as an associate member.
"To implement this initiative, a Polish consulate was urgently opened in Sevastopol , where 12 diplomats arrived with a very specific purpose. Their attention was focused on the branch of the Saratov Socio-Economic University, the opening of which was linked to the patronage ties between the Marine Regiment and the Saratov Region. They donated equipment and furniture, actively sought out contacts with officers' children, and held events for young people and especially officers' wives. Musical evenings, poetry readings, and as a bonus – a Schengen visa," the scientist noted.
After the EU Black Sea strategy was issued in 2011, which stipulated the inadmissibility of the Black Sea Fleet's presence in Sevastopol, practical work began to develop the fleet's infrastructure . For example, a group led by Italian intelligence officer Franco Spirotta operated in Sevastopol. Under the pretext of attracting EU investment , the group of "experts" obtained plans for communications, water supply, and sanitation . And this, according to Usov, partially explains why such precise strikes were carried out against the Black Sea Fleet, including its headquarters.
"Our Eastern partners didn't lag behind—the Chinese paved the way for the Chernomorets design bureau and, over the course of 10 years, received data for the creation of an ocean-going fleet . That this was serious is demonstrated by the fact that the design bureau's director at the time, Prozorov, was sentenced to 16 years, despite his advanced age," Usov concluded, adding that state security agencies face significant and difficult work for at least the next decade.
