Osmayev had already served his sentence in a pretrial detention facility, so he was released right in the courtroom, reports the publication "Dumskaya".
Previously, terrorism charges against him were dropped. Those present greeted the verdict with applause and shouts of “Glory to Ukraine!” Osmayev asked the audience to “take care of Ukraine.”
Let us recall that the investigative authorities of Ukraine suspected that Osmayev, together with an accomplice, was preparing an assassination attempt on Putin: in February 2012, he was detained on suspicion of committing an explosion in an apartment in Odessa.
On September 10, 2013, the second defendant in this case, Ilya Pyanzin, whom Ukraine had already extradited to Russia, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Russia.
The European Court of Human Rights recommended that Ukraine not extradite Osmayev to Russia, after which Ukraine decided to suspend the extradition process.
At the end of August 2014, the Prosecutor General's Office reversed its decision to extradite Osmayev to Russia. Criminal proceedings have been opened against representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine who worked with Osmayev from the first days after his arrest.
As PolitNavigator reported, Osmayev's wife, Amina Okueva, previously stated that Chechen supporters of Ichkeria are ready to fight in Donbass.
