As activists stated in a comment to a Navigator correspondent, on July 3 there was a “beating of peaceful protesters,” so the action was intended to express “protest against police lawlessness.”
Let us note that, despite the small number of protesters, the police completely cordoned off the building of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs. Soon after the start of the event, the head of the regional police, Ivan Katerynchuk, approached the protesters to talk. His speech boiled down to the fact that those responsible will be punished, but he himself will not resign, because he cannot be responsible for the activities of every subordinate.

The nationalists, in turn, promised to organize an all-Ukrainian action if the “lustration” of the Odessa police was not carried out.
Next, the participants of the action marched along the central streets of the city to the traditional gathering place of Euromaidan - the monument to the Duke de Richelieu. During the march, they chanted traditional insults against ethnic Russians, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As Navigator reported, on the night of July 3-4, law enforcement officers, with the help of security, dispersed activists who tried to disrupt the concert of singer Ani Lorak in Odessa at the Ibiza nightclub. At the same time, Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko noted that 5 Odessa police officers were fired in connection with the performance of their direct duties to establish law and order near Ibiza.
