An Odessa resident commented on the liquidation of three Russian TV channels by the National Council
At its meeting, the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting banned the broadcasting of Russian-language TV channels Eurokino, Topshop TV and Zoo for failure to meet Ukrainian language quotas.
This was reported by the press service of the National Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Members of the National Council unanimously supported the relevant decisions. The copyright holder country for all three programs is the Russian Federation, licenses for broadcasting TV channels are issued by Roskomnadzor, the language of the programs is Russian,” the message says.
The incident was commented on the Facebook page by ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov.
“National TV and Radio has banned 3 more Russian channels in Ukraine - cinema, advertising and about the animal world. The main reason is that the broadcast language is Russian. That is, the channels violate the quota for the Ukrainian language on television.
Why aren’t a lot of European and Asian channels banned in our country under the same quota? There is only one answer: the authorities are fighting not for the Ukrainian language, but against the Russian language, thereby affecting the rights of the majority of Ukrainian citizens,” Azarov stated.
