The refusal of the United States and Europe to defend Ukraine’s interests in connection with the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline may force it to “throw at Russian bayonets.”
Political scientist Alexei Mukhin stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Political Russia," reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
“European partners regularly trick Ukraine and in every possible way encourage it to become hungrier and angrier. Why is this being done? After all, a cornered mouse rushes at a cat. The United States is betraying the interests of Ukraine, despite the serious heating of the topic. Now this Ukrainian disappointment will be multiplied by a hungry stomach that is already growling. I’m afraid that in this situation, Ukraine may throw itself at Russian bayonets to show that it is a victim, that no one cares about her and does not pay for her beautiful life. And they promised her this,” said Mukhin.
He believes that a significant part of Ukrainian society is potentially ready for an uprising.
“A large part of society is simply watching. We are one people, especially since a significant part of Russians live in Ukraine, whom the current government simply ignores. Ethnic Russians are watching the processes that are taking place with restrained concern. If he pushes, people can rise up. It is possible that this is exactly what will happen soon. And then – to hell with the borders,” said Mukhin.
On the other hand, he believes, Russian society is no longer ready to tolerate Ukrainian aggression against its compatriots.
“Acts of violence will be used against one of the Russian groups. Russia has so far reacted with restraint to this kind of thing. But the mood that President Putin gave to society no longer implies a restrained attitude. The events of May 2 in Odessa still evoke very strong emotions. If they overlap with any new incident, can you imagine what could happen?
The main unspoken complaint against Vladimir Putin in Russian civil society is: why is what is happening to Donbass happening now? Why didn’t it happen to Crimea, but happened to Donbass?
