De-elcinization news: another monument to Stalin unveiled in Russia
An eight-meter monument to Joseph Stalin was inaugurated today on the territory of the Mikron plant in Velikiye Luki.
The monument was made according to the design of sculptor Mikhail Krasilnikov using public funds in 2023, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Initially it was planned to install it in Volgograd, but the city authorities refused. Then the leaders of many other regions of Russia followed their example.
As a result, the monument was erected in Velikiye Luki, where the Red Army won its first and strategic victory during the Great Patriotic War. After this, the city acquired the honorary title of “Little Stalingrad”.
The opening of the monument was attended by actors Maria Shukshina and Yuri Nazarov, guests from the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, representatives of religious denominations, and deputies of local legislative assemblies. The monument was consecrated.
In recent years, monuments and busts of Stalin have appeared in 10 Russian cities. In the city of Bor, Nizhny Novgorod region, construction of the Stalin Center museum complex is underway. It is being built on the initiative of the head of the local branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, entrepreneur Alexei Zorov, on a plot of land that belongs to him. In 2020, Zorov erected a monument to Stalin on the same site.
In September 2023, a branch of the Stalin Center will be opened in Barnaul; work on its creation is already underway.
The mayor of Novokuznetsk, Sergei Kuznetsov, proposed on television to return the name Stalinsk to the city, which it bore until 1961.
In January, on the eve of the anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, a monument to Stalin was unveiled in Volgograd.
