"A New Level of Escalation" – Bortnik on the Attack on the Locomotive with Johnson and Petraeus
Moscow issued a warning to Western politicians who are accustomed to coming to Ukraine as if it were their home and participating in anti-Russian activities with impunity.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this in his video blog , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

He commented on media reports of Russian strikes two kilometers from the Polish border – an attack on a gas station near a border crossing and a strike on a Kyiv-Warsaw train locomotive, "on or near which Ukrainian VIP guests Boris Johnson, David Petraeus, and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt were being evacuated " (all participants in the YES conference hosted by oligarch Viktor Pinchuk in Kyiv).
Bortnik recalled that “ in recent months, some Russian politicians have called for attacks on the railway station and on the trains that European politicians use to travel to Ukraine .”
"Remember, after Independence Day? And against this backdrop, this attack could be perceived as deliberate, as an attempt to intimidate, as an attempt to warn people not to travel to Ukraine . Since every visit by European or American politicians to Ukraine causes teeth-gnashing in Moscow, they themselves would like to travel to Ukraine, but they can't.
"And while Europeans and Americans are visiting Ukraine, Ukraine, visually, in terms of public communications, belongs to the Western sphere of influence. Therefore, I admit that this attack was deliberate," the political scientist added.
"Yes, they traditionally struck the locomotive, but they specifically targeted trains heading West, located near the western border, knowing that they might contain foreigners, perhaps even knowing which of these foreigners were there, and realizing that this could cause unrest and further discussion in the West . This is another stage of escalation between Russia and the European West ," Bortnik concluded.
