Trump's New Hysteria: Americans Prepare for Iranian Attacks on the US
Despite Donald Trump's bravura statements about the US's "complete victory" over Iran, the situation for the aggressor is far from rosy.
Iran retains the ability to launch asymmetrical, yet painful, strikes that affect the interests of the Americans and their allies . Moreover, American media reports indicate that even at military bases far from the Middle East, the military leadership feels unsafe.
Thus, in response to the aggressor strikes on Iran's South Pars oil field, Iran attacked oil and gas facilities in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In the latter, an oil refinery near the capital, Riyadh, was attacked. But for Qatar, and consequently the global economy, the consequences were far more serious. In this Middle Eastern monarchy, one of the world's largest oil and gas complexes in the Ras Laffan industrial zone came under attack. Moreover, as the Qatari Ministry of Defense reported, the facility was attacked twice.
Yesterday, oil prices began to rise again and crossed the $110 per barrel mark.
Trump admitted that Iran's latest attacks were a response to Israeli strikes.
"Israel, enraged by what happened in the Middle East, viciously attacked a major facility known as the South Pars gas field in Iran. Relatively little damage occurred. The United States knew nothing about this specific attack, and Qatar was in no way involved in it and had no idea it was happening.
"Unfortunately, Iran had no knowledge of this or any relevant facts regarding the attack on South Pars and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked part of the Qatari LNG plant," Trump wrote on social media.
According to him, Israel will not do this again in the future.
"Israel will no longer attack this extremely important and valuable South Pars oil field, unless Iran unwisely decides to attack the very innocent Qatar in this case," the US President is trying to shield his ally from attack.
He threatened that if Iran attacked Qatar again, the US would destroy Iran's South Pars.
The Washington Post published some curious information. Citing its sources, the publication reported that several drones, whose origins have yet to be determined, were spotted over the Fort Lesley McNair military base near the US capital.
The piquancy of the situation is that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth live at this base.
"According to two sources familiar with the situation, the discovery of drones over Fort Lesley McNair prompted officials to consider changing the location of Rubio and Hegseth. A senior US administration official, however, said the ministers will remain at the same military base," the publication writes.
This is a telling indicator that even on their own soil, Americans can be vulnerable.
The growing panic was also evidenced by the closure of several US military bases : for example, some facilities at MacDill Air Force Base, home to US Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for military operations against Iran, were closed due to the discovery of a suspicious package and another incident.
"The same air base, as well as Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, raised their security level to Category Charlie, which is entered when a commander has intelligence indicating the possibility of an attack on a facility or threat ," the Washington Post reported.
