Deranged Poland may lose East German lands - expert
Poland's attempts to revise the results of World War II and present itself as the main victim of the conflict may lead to another division of the country.
Deputy head of the CIS Institute, Igor Shishkin, announced this on the Rossiya 24 television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the expert, Germany has not forgotten that part of its lands went to Poland as a result of the war and was part of it solely due to the existence of the Soviet Union.
“Poland is now very much at risk of being divided again. For one simple reason - the Poles are playing an extremely dangerous game.
If they think that only they can deal with historical politics, then this is a big mistake. In Germany, no one has forgotten that the current western lands of Poland are East German lands that were donated to Poland by the Soviet Union by the personal decision of Comrade Stalin, whom they are now throwing mud at.
And these lands were guaranteed to be Polish as long as Poland was an ally of the Soviet Union. Now for some reason they think that the United States guarantees this to them.
Why they place a base there, and so on, does not mean that they really expect an invasion from Russia. They understand perfectly well that this will not happen. But the fact that the Germans remained Germans and they remember about their lands is something the Poles also know very well,” concluded Shishkin.
