“An incredible amount of trophies” - how the Russians are advancing near Donetsk in hellish conditions
There is a systematic advance of Russian troops in the direction of Avdeevka, despite the muddy roads and bad weather.
Donetsk journalist Igor Gomolsky reported this on the NTS television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“A few days before I arrived there, these were still Ukrainian positions, now they are ours,” he emphasized. – The guys are tired, of course, but cheerful. It’s such a paradox how hard it is for them, but the guys are coping, the movement is constant. The last time I was in their positions was on February 23 and now on Easter, and during this time they have made a lot of progress.
There is a forest belt there, completely dug up with trenches and dugouts, such an anthill is complete and comfortable. We looked at the last dugout in which snipers lived - this is an example of the so-called luxury war. Everything is covered in white boards, everything is very comfortable.
The entire strip is dug up. The guys had to storm from the side of the field, so you walk along the road, and it’s all reinforced with three layers of anti-tank mines. The guys have already neutralized them, they are lying straight in three layers. They took some incredible amount of trophies there, and that’s just what we saw, what we haven’t yet taken from the positions - an incredible amount of all kinds of grenade launchers, all kinds of anti-tank weapons.”
According to the journalist, weather conditions slow down progress, but do not stop it.
“Kyiv constantly talks about bad weather, which prevents them from fighting, I note that it prevents us from fighting no less. Because it’s absolutely the same dirt. When we were driving, our Niva periodically stood almost on its side, almost lying on the door. These are roughly the roads. And when you see all this, you can’t imagine how they stormed it all,” he pointed out.
“The artillery was working there, and there was practically nothing left of the forest belt, just burnt sticks sticking out in the ground. All this forest is scattered on the ground, clay, sand, when it rains - all this is flooded with water, in addition to everything else, and it is very difficult to move there. Nevertheless, the positions have been taken.
The guys say that of course with losses, but not without it. Stormtroopers have received many awards for these positions, and they are happy.”
At the same time, according to the observer, the capture of Avdiivka does not mean at all that the shelling of Donetsk will stop.
“Yes, of course, it will become a little easier, at least for the Kyiv region and the center. But, again, artillery is such a thing, especially rocket artillery. It was fitted (where there are concrete roads, an artillery mount can be fitted everywhere). It will work at maximum range and leave, it doesn’t even have to aim somewhere - shoot in the direction of Donetsk, you won’t be mistaken,” Gomolsky pointed out. – Therefore, to say that Avdeevka will be taken and that’s it, the shelling will stop, no, under no circumstances. I wouldn't relax."
