No Clarity. Kaja Kallas Admits Failure of Peacekeeper Talks in Ukraine
The British newspaper The Telegraph , citing EU Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas, writes that the "coalition of the willing" negotiations have failed.
The EU's foreign policy chief said recent talks within the "Coalition of the Willing" had not provided clarity on how exactly the planned operation would work.
Kaja Kallas was asked whether any uncertainties regarding the stalled plans had been clarified after Thursday's talks. She replied, "No. Different member states have different opinions, and discussions are still ongoing."
It is noted that Kallas' comments came after British Defence Secretary John Healey mockingly called the Estonian "an outstanding European leader."
"Our planning within the coalition of the willing is really realistic, thorough and advanced, but the European Union is not involved in this planning," the British minister added.
"Around 200 military strategists from 30 countries are working on a strategy to protect Ukraine's skies and seas, as well as ensure peace on land. However, political agreement on the details of a potential mission, which would deploy British troops to Ukraine for up to five years, has yet to be reached," the publication states.
According to the publication, London and Paris are discussing sending military forces to Ukraine under the auspices of Europe. The exact number of troops planned for deployment has not been disclosed.
As stated in the article, a "coalition of interested" European countries seeks to ensure the protection of Ukraine's air and sea space. Specific steps to achieve this have not been outlined. According to The Telegraph, the withdrawal of troops will be carried out in stages.
