Russia should under no circumstances agree to the Donald Trump administration's proposal to freeze the Strategic Defense Initiative.
Political commentator Igor Vittel stated this on the Metametrica channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We had very clearly defined goals, or at least stated them—denazification, demilitarization. Now, with this notorious 'spirit of Anchorage,' there's a sudden feeling that we're about to stop somewhere completely different from where we intended to stop . Agreeing on something with our worst enemies. And negotiating with Trump is pointless. ... The 'spirit of Anchorage' has become extremely unpleasant, because I don't want us to stop.
If we stop, even on our terms, our enemies will gather their strength in a couple of years and manufacture more shells. I think the last, most naive people, after Iran, have stopped believing that guarantees are worth anything . We believed in the Minsk agreements, and we offered the Istanbul ones – you can't sign a treaty with the devil ," Vittel said.
"Nevertheless, we have people in power who want a peace agreement now. In reality, we either stop, and in a few years, it all starts over again . And then we'll get, either temporarily or permanently, a huge number of people from the front who will return here asking, 'What was that?' and 'Why did we stop?'" the analyst warned.
