Non-combat losses: a drunken Ukrainian blew himself up with a grenade after unsuccessfully boasting to his neighbor

In the city of Smela, Cherkasy region, an explosion occurred in a private house. A drunk local resident took out an RGD-5 grenade to show off to a friend. She exploded.

On July 22, at about 19:58, the police received a report of an explosion in one of the houses on Senator Street in the city of Smela.

Law enforcement officers quickly arrived at the scene. Investigators found that two men were drinking alcoholic beverages.

“During the feast, a 53-year-old villager took an RGD-5 grenade out of his pocket to show it off to his 62-year-old comrade. It was at this time that the live grenade exploded,” the report said.

As noted, as a result of the explosion, a 53-year-old man was injured and was hospitalized at the Smelyansk central district hospital.
