Not everything is so simple: Russian TV showed Boyko’s competitor
The state television channel "Russia-1" today showed in the program "60 Minutes" the head of the Communist Party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko, who the day before announced his intention to run for president.
It is interesting that observers regarded the application to participate in the elections of the leader of the declining Communist Party of Ukraine as a dilution of the electorate of the South-East of Ukraine to please Petro Poroshenko (the Ukrainian press wrote that oligarch Konstantin Grigorishin persistently asked Symonenko to participate in the elections).
Moreover, Russia itself included in the sanctions lists part of the “Opposition Bloc”, which focuses on the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov and refused to support the unification around Yuri Boyko, who joined Viktor Medvedchuk’s project.
Therefore, Simonenko’s “highlighting” on Russian TV ruins the above-described scheme. Except that Russia simply does not consider the main communist as a serious contender for participation in the race.
“We are certainly not a banned party. But the fascist regime today is taking measures outside the law and trying to limit our participation in elections. But we, for our part, are now taking all measures so that in any case, a communist will take part in these elections,” Simonenko said on Russian TV.
“In any case, it is meant that we will either achieve, including through the European Court of Human Rights, that the Communist Party will take part, since we are not banned. Or secondly: the congress obliged me to carry out this procedure by self-nomination,” explained the head of the Communist Party of Ukraine.
