"No Time to Be Kind" - Karin Kneissl Advises Russia Not to Forgive Fled Western Businesses
Western businesses that fled Russia after the start of the Cold War must pay compensation if they want to return.
Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl stated this in an interview with Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I always advise at round tables and conferences that now is not the time to be too kind. In Russia, you can hear government officials saying that they are ready to welcome guests from the EU again. But after everything that has happened, I would advise, first of all, to demand compensation.
Because in the trade area there have been many violations of corporate and international law, confiscations of property and freezing and partial confiscation of assets of the Central Bank of Russia. So I would put a big question mark whether they are ready to do business again and return to normal life," Kneissl said.
She lives in Russia and observes different points of view on the issue of the return of Western business.
"I think there will be people in Russia who will really want to do this. But there will also be those who will say: let's wait and see. And the government will say that this is possible under certain conditions," Kneissl said.
