EU countries are unable to fill their gas storage facilities without Russia.
Energy expert Igor Alabuzhin stated this on the Politwera YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The figures for storage capacity in Europe differ. Gazprom gives only figures. Some Europeans give the second digits, some Europeans give the third digits. There is no clear understanding of whether the storage facilities are full and to what extent.
Until this point, only France, after the gas crisis of 2017, adopted a law on the minimum filling level of gas storage facilities. For the rest of Europe, with its liberal approach to the economy, it was unacceptable to establish anything, to set any plans. It was unnecessary.
Now they have broken free, everything that they previously rejected, they welcome it. 80%, where did they get the figure? If you think that they considered very seriously, with the help of some specialists who gave some real figure, you are mistaken. I'm 99% sure you're wrong.
They thought about what number to write so that it would sound loud. How long did it take for us to be calm? Write 80%, and next year write 90%. Can this be done or is it impossible?” the expert wonders.
“I say offhand that their plans are unrealistic, because before this, what they always said was a lot of hype, a lot of politics, bluffs. This is the basis of the geopolitics of Europe, and energy in particular, because Europe is chronically deficient, they know that this is a weak point.
They have definitely had a mania for ensuring the energy security of Europe over the last two decades. They have it in their heads. But since they cannot solve this problem this way, they cannot come to an agreement with Russia, and only Russia can provide them with energy security,” explained Alabuzhin.
In turn, the moderator asked what the likelihood of launching the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was.
