Vladimir Zelensky is not the only politician who demonstrated success in the first round of the presidential elections in Ukraine. The preliminary results can be considered successful for the former head of the SBU, Igor Smeshko, who returned to politics, who will now lay claim to the electorate of the deflated Minister of Defense during Yushchenko’s presidency, Anatoly Gritsenko.
Political scientist Yuriy Romanenko discusses this in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Smeshko is a mature man, he has ambitions and, in fact, they pushed him to this presidential election. Now the “bags” will come to Smeshko, people will come who want to get into parliament and who would like to be able to get their own people - either to come in themselves, or for the party led by Smeshko to lobby for interests.
In this regard, Smeshko has a great opportunity to enter the Rada and gobble up Gritsenko’s electorate to a large extent.
This situation is the decline of Gritsenko’s star, who, as he described himself as “the first impassable”, remained so.
Smeshko returned to the big game. He can join someone’s party and be an interesting player there,” Romanenko said.
As PolitNavigator reported, former SBU head Smeshko stated bluntly in one of his broadcasts that Ukrainians can only desire "victory ," while those who favor "peace at any cost" are a fifth column.
The candidate also promised to build a country such that residents of Crimea and the LPR and DPR would climb through the borders into Ukraine themselves, like through the Berlin Wall.
Moreover, Smeshko publicly expressed regret that Ukraine did not give Crimea a bloodbath in 2014.
