In the West, there has been a growing feeling lately that Ukraine has lost the war, so Kyiv needed a strike on the Russian strategic aviation aircraft to restore the sponsors' faith in the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to continue fighting.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The goal of all this was , firstly, to restore the Western allies' faith that Ukraine could win, and that's really important . From the perspective of the war, the prospects for a Russian-Ukrainian war, and the prospects for support for Ukraine were constantly declining.
To some extent, this logic echoes the logic of the Ukrainian army's entry into the Kursk region or the logic of the summer counteroffensive of 2023. A proactive action was necessary, one that, while perhaps not super-functional from a military perspective, would, from a political perspective, demonstrate the strength of Ukraine's capabilities and restore to outside observers the feeling that Ukraine is not losing the war.
Therefore, it must be supported, therefore, we must continue to work with it and there is no need to rush to reach an agreement with Moscow today,” Bortnik said.
