If we don't help Cuba, things will get worse in Ukraine, says State Duma deputy
The US calculation that Russia is “bogged down” in Ukraine and that Moscow will not be able to help Cuba cannot be justified.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov announced this on the Red Line television channel , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the politician, the "global South" is closely watching how Russia treats its friends, especially in crisis situations.
" It turns out the Cuban people are paying the price for choosing friendship with us . That's exactly what it looks like.
Yes, we have abandoned the policies of Gaidar, Chubais, Yeltsin, and Kozyrev. We say that Russia behaved poorly on the international stage in the 1990s. Of course, it did so poorly, because it betrayed its traditional friends, including Cuba, which experienced the most difficult situation in the country's history, known as the "special period." But now, in fact, things are even worse.
If we don't learn to multitask, if we don't understand that the situation in Ukraine isn't the only problem we have to solve, things will get harder for us in Ukraine too.
That same global majority that is on our side – the degree of their support towards us will depend on how they evaluate Moscow’s support for their very first allies.
If it turns out that Moscow can sell them out, or, let's say, disregard their interests, then many will ask questions: is this the BRICS association, which we should look up to , and which Russia and China were co-founders of, or is this the SCO association, which we should keep an eye on, and so on," Novikov said.
