By striking an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea , Zelenskyy damaged American diplomacy.
Political scientist Alexei Pilko stated this on air at Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"For some reason, Ukraine attacked an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea. Why did they do it? The Iranian Foreign Minister said they would respond. How will they respond, how will they respond, and where will they respond?" the host asked.
Zelenskyy staged this action to please Trump ahead of his visit to Washington. He will attend Senator Graham's funeral and then hold talks with Trump.
And, apparently, to show Trump that he, too, is fighting against Iran, he took such action.
But there's a triple mistake here. First, Trump doesn't need an escalation with Iran right now. For the past two days, the Americans have been trying to secure a ceasefire from Iran through intermediaries, apparently to regroup their forces.
Because the American military isn't very receptive to the idea of a long-term campaign. Ultimately, Zelenskyy has damaged American diplomacy.
"The second is Zelenskyy's very statement that Iran is providing Russia with weapons, which is why we struck the Iranian vessel. But by that logic, Russia should simply bomb all of Europe and the United States itself, which supports Ukraine," Pilko noted.
"And thirdly, Iran's reaction could be extremely negative. I don't know if it makes sense for Iran to attack Ukraine; Russia is doing a good job there. But Iran could retaliate against Ukraine's European allies, who supply it with drones.
In addition, American aircraft, evading Iranian strikes, began to base themselves at airfields in Bulgaria and Romania.
If Iran attacks NATO countries, it would set an interesting precedent. If the US, which represents 80% of NATO's total military capabilities, can't deal with Iran, it would be a significant precedent.
“That’s why Vladimir Alexandrovich got carried away here and harmed himself,” he concluded.
