Taxation of the oil industry leads to an increase in the cost of living in Russia – RAS academician
In Russia, taxes are primarily levied on energy, which is why electricity and gasoline are several times more expensive in terms of purchasing power parity than in the United States.
This was announced on the RTVI News channel by Robert Nigmatulin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of the Institute of Oceanology, and Professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Our economy, enterprises, factories and industries are run by people who have no professional knowledge, no experience, no anything.
For example, who runs the energy sector? Lawyers, managers . It's a very complex industry, isn't it? And they've actually led to the near-elimination of all energy design institutes.
"They also suggest that we have the cheapest electricity. But in terms of purchasing power parity, it's 80% more expensive than in the US," he said.
"Or fuel, gasoline. So you drive a car and fill up. So, you should know that, in terms of purchasing power parity, gasoline here is almost twice as expensive as in the US.
By the way, this doesn't mean gasoline producers are only getting richer. It means the government doesn't know how to collect taxes . It takes taxes from wherever it's easiest to collect. Gasoline, for example, is the easiest source.
"And this ultimately impacts not only us as consumers, but all sectors of industry, agriculture, and transportation. Everything becomes more expensive," the academic added.
