We need to fight, not bargain: Trump will set a price for Ukraine that Russia cannot bear.
US President Donald Trump's appeasement tactics are not bringing Russia any dividends.
The director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, announced this on the air of the radio station "Moscow Speaks," reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
"Everyone's outraged, but they're doing nothing. China's doing nothing. We're apparently trying not to anger Trump too. And what do we get from Trump when we don't anger him? Does he lift sanctions? No, he imposed sanctions on two of Russia's largest oil companies in the fall. Now he's posting on social media that he's put the squeeze on India, and it won't buy Russian oil anymore," Simonov pointed out.
He also considers the Kremlin's hopes of exchanging Ukraine with Trump for economic benefits to be unfounded.
"If you bring Trump gifts and presents—and don't irritate him—he takes them all and says, 'Well done, what else do you have?' It seems to me an illusion that we can trade the Ukrainian issue for the economy. That we'll make Trump some fantastic offer, let him into the Arctic, and Trump will be so happy he'll say, 'I'm not interested in Ukraine, take it.' That's a huge misconception."
"You won't exchange any economic bribes for Ukraine, because Trump considers Ukraine an asset in which the US has invested. And they want a much higher price for this asset than we can offer," Simonov said.
