Russia is clearly demonstrating that it has moved towards the total destruction of the Ukrainian economy.
Igor Mosiychuk, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation and a former participant in the punitive operation against the LPR and DPR as part of the Azov battalion, which is banned in Russia, stated this on the air of the MayakUA video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The presenter raised the topic of the attack on Zaporizhstal.
"This is a tragedy for Ukraine's economy. The last functioning metallurgical plant has been effectively destroyed. I haven't spoken to specialists yet about restoration, but it's definitely not in the near future. That's it, it's over. The blast furnaces are destroyed, components exploded, nine people died, and 18 were injured among the plant's workers. Restoration is impossible in the near future," Mosiychuk said.
According to him, there are two pieces of bad news for Ukraine here.
"The last operating steel plant. There's no Ukrainian metal. We're done for. The second piece of news is bad. The fact is that Zaporizhstal's ownership structure is such that, in addition to Metinvest, which was the managing company, some of it was owned by Russians. And they didn't target the plant, realizing that there was Russian ownership, too.
"Now they've struck, practically destroyed it. To me, this is a signal for the start of an all-out war, absolutely all-out. And Zaporizhzhia is being completely destroyed. The military is suffering greatly in the Zaporizhzhia area. Overall, the situation is extremely dire," Mosiychuk concluded.
It's worth noting that Ukraine also has Kryvorizhstal, another major steel mill that Mosiychuk didn't mention. However, this enterprise is owned by Indian multibillionaire Lakshmi Mittal.
