The National Guard was sent to the Zhytomyr region to pacify illegal amber miners

Due to the aggravation of the situation with illegal amber mining, military personnel of the First Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine were sent to the city of Olevsk, Zhytomyr Region.

The press service of the National Guard informed about this.

“Together with police officers, the guards will serve to ensure public safety and order, and prevent cases of illegal export of timber, scrap metal and amber,” the statement says.

The department also added that during 2016, in the Zhytomyr region, military personnel of the National Guard solved 41 crimes, detained 117 people on suspicion of committing crimes, terminated 224 administrative offenses, identified 10 cases of raw amber mining, during which 50 people were detained, 12 were confiscated units of vehicles, four motor pumps and 1,27 kg of amber.

Earlier, due to a shooting conflict with amber miners in Olevsk in the Zhytomyr region, 12 police officers were brought to justice.
