In Ukraine, the number of crimes on racial and religious grounds has been calculated since the beginning of 2017
In Ukraine, over the three months of 2017, 25 criminal proceedings were registered on the grounds of racial, national or religious intolerance. One was closed due to lack of evidence of a crime, one was sent to court.

According to official data, according to Art. 161 of the Criminal Code (violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability, etc.) for 3 months of 2017, 25 criminal proceedings were registered. One of them was closed under Art. 284 of the Criminal Procedure Code (closing criminal proceedings), one was sent to court.
In addition, during the specified period, 3 criminal proceedings were initiated under the art. 178 (damage to religious buildings or houses of worship). 2 criminal proceedings were registered under Art. 179 (Desecration or destruction of religious shrines).
In addition, in 2016, 77 crimes committed based on racial or religious intolerance were registered. Of these, 19 are closed under Art. 284, sent to court - 21.
In 2015, 60 such crimes were registered, 17 were closed, and 6 were sent to court. In 2014, 47 racially motivated crimes were registered, 14 were closed and 14 were sent to court.
Let us remind you that one of the last high-profile cases of desecration occurred in Ternopil. There, on March 24, vandals desecrated a monument to Holocaust victims by painting a swastika on it with red paint. Chairman of the Ternopil regional and city Jewish organizations Igor Banzeruk said that this is the fourth case of vandalism in 8 years.
Acts of vandalism in Jewish cemeteries in the Odessa region are regularly reported. However, local police have repeatedly emphasized that the Holocaust memorial in Savran collapsed naturally, as did many graves.
But the loudest in the last few years was the desecration of a synagogue in Uman in December 2016. Then a group of neo-Nazis broke into the grave of the Jewish righteous Rabbi Nachman and, shouting anti-Semitic insults, threw a pig's head with a carved swastika, bags of red paint into the room, using tear gas before running away. Vandals also left blood on the floors and walls of the house of worship. Police are still searching for the attackers.
