Ukraine is preparing to legalize anti-Orthodox pogromists
Ukrainian politicians are lifting the formally existing taboo on religious confrontation, writes Rostislav Ishchenko, president of the Center for System Analysis and Forecasting, in Izvestia.

The author considers the chances of the Verkhovna Rada to adopt a law that would limit and place the activities of the UOC under state control quite high.
“After the legislative ban in Ukraine on St. George’s symbols, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Yandex services, I have no confidence that Ukrainian politicians will try to stop in time. However, this is no longer important. The very fact of introducing this bill into the session hall marks the beginning of a new stage of the civil war in Ukraine - its gradual transformation into a religious war. Just like the first (“peaceful”) Maidan, by the very fact of its holding it gave rise to a cold civil war with its almost inevitable escalation into a hot one. Just the public discussion of the law banning the UOC-MP in the session hall makes it a factor in the political struggle and removes the formally existing taboo on religious confrontation,” the expert predicts.
“Temples of the UOC-MP have been captured before, priests have been beaten, killed, and forced to emigrate from Ukraine. However, previously this was interpreted as “illegal excesses.” The vote of deputies on the bill will legalize anti-Orthodox pogromists, the expert believes. – You never know that the law didn’t pass (even if it didn’t), but it could have passed. Now these are “legitimate demands” of part of society, supported by a significant part of legislators. Maidans were also initially supported only by a minority of the population and politicians. But as soon as they were declared a legitimate form of struggle by a part of society for their rights, there were already destroyed cities, tens of thousands of dead, and no end in sight.”
Let us note that the corresponding bill has not yet been considered by the Ukrainian parliament, although the document has been registered and included in the agenda.
