This was announced on Tuesday in Novorossiysk at a meeting on the development of ports in the Azov-Black Sea basin by the head of the Ministry of Transport, Maxim Sokolov.

“In order for them to meet modern requirements, it is necessary to carry out comprehensive modernization of the berths and replace the equipment that is currently in the ports. This is provided for in the government-approved Federal Target Program for the socio-economic development of Crimea and Sevastopol until 2020 in a total amount of 6,2 billion rubles,” the official noted.

He recalled the application of Western sanctions:

“Unfortunately, such a possibility exists, which currently reduces investment interest in the ports of the Crimean Peninsula. Although in the future they have quite high potential,” said Maxim Sokolov.

Earlier during the meeting, President Vladimir Putin instructed to increase the capacity of the ports of southern Russia and clarify the corresponding plans, taking into account Crimea, to make maximum use of the advantages and strengths of “every port, every logistics complex.”

“In this regard, we need to look at which capacities are best developed in Crimea and which in the Krasnodar Territory,” the head of state emphasized.
