Against the backdrop of Prigozhin's rebellion, Zmagar militants may attack Belarus
The presidents of Russia and Belarus spoke by telephone this morning to discuss the military mutiny by Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner PMC. This was reported by Alexander Lukashenko's press service, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
A riot organized by a businessman could threaten the security of Belarus. The “transition cabinet” of the self-proclaimed “President of Belarus” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is urgently meeting in Vilnius today.
Before the meeting, Tikhanovskaya’s “Minister of Defense” Valery Sakhashchik addressed supporters on the Internet, calling on the military to go over to the side of the fugitive Zmagars.
“We have to decide what to do next, and decide quickly,” Sakhashchik said.
Belarusian political scientist Andrei Sych believes that the internal political crisis in Russia makes it possible for militants trained by Poland and Ukraine to invade Belarus.
“Alexander Lukashenko once again worked several steps forward and neutralized the likelihood of a full-scale invasion by placing tactical nuclear weapons in the country. Meanwhile, this does not exclude the work of the DRG and terrorists in border settlements. A response has been prepared for these calls, but in such a scenario, every minute will be important,” Sych wrote in his tg channel.
“There is a bad feeling that in the coming days Kalinovsky’s regiment will break through into Belarus,” historian Alexander Dyukov, in turn, warns.
The regiment’s militants announced an “appeal to the Belarusian people” for the evening.
