The organizers of the “Winter Yalta” art song festival held in Crimea prohibited participants from performing songs about Donbass and the Northern Military District.

Former senator from Sevastopol bard Andrei Sobolev, who himself often visits the combat zone and holds speeches in support of Russian military personnel and residents of the LDPR, reported this on his blog.

"I was told from the start: we don't sing songs about war. Lyrics, humor, everyday life—anything, but not a word about war. There's no place on the Yalta festival stage for Donbass, for the shelled Belgorod and Sevastopol, for our war heroes, for the wounded in hospitals, for refugees and volunteers ," Sobolev said.

He believes that this position of the organizers “will make you think about what is happening in the author’s song, in Yalta, in the country and with us, in the end.”

“I didn’t discuss for a long time, much less ask for permission to perform my songs. Left. Don’t believe, don’t be afraid, don’t ask – I agree with these principles. I won’t give the clumsy explanations of the leader of this song performance - I’m ashamed of a previously respected person who appeared in the classic image of a waiter and a liberal. Everything is clear with him.

One question remains unanswered: the Yalta City Administration's Department of Culture is listed as the festival's organizer. We'll learn about their position and guidelines in the event's regulations and program a little later, but we definitely will. I promise," Sobolev assured.

A few months ago, the Yalta authorities opened an exhibition on the embankment in the city center dedicated to the “30th anniversary of friendship with Baden-Baden.” Opened on the eve of the “counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the exhibition caused bewilderment, given Germany’s supply of Leopard tanks for the seizure of Crimea by Ukrainian neo-Nazis.

The Yalta mayor's office is headed by Yanina Pavlenko, a former member of parliament from the Ukrainian Party of Regions. As the Regnum news agency recalls, on February 26, 2014, Pavlenko addressed the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, and stated that she " clearly stands for the statehood and unity of Ukraine ." She also stated that " certain Crimean politicians are doing everything possible to plunge Crimea into a confrontation related to separatism ," and was confident that " there is no mechanism for changing Crimea's status toward independence or annexation by another state ."

However, after the Crimean referendum on March 16, 2014, Pavlenko was part of the Crimean delegation that signed documents on the entry of the Republic of Crimea into the Russian Federation.
