The Middle East no longer perceives Russia as an ally of Iran

Russia's authority in the Middle East has grown since its participation in the war in Syria. Alexey Sarabiev, head of the scientific and publishing department of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about this at a press conference in Moscow.

“Russia has greatly increased its authority in the Arab world. Its opinion is listened to not as a mythical member of the alliance with Iran, but as an independent player in the Middle East. Russia stands in defense of Middle Eastern Christians and all refugees. Humanitarian aid is distributed to everyone,” Sarabiev said.

In his opinion, Russian successes in helping the Syrian army indirectly influenced overcoming the presidential vacuum in Lebanon. On October 31, General Michel Aoun became the President of Lebanon, who positions himself as a defender of Christians in the Middle East and an ally of Bashar al-Assad.
