Russia continues to improve its drones, which are becoming an increasingly difficult target for Ukrainian air defense systems.
Ukrainian aviation expert Valeriy Romanenko stated this on the air of the video blog "Great Lviv Speaks," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"During a demonstration in one of the cities on May 9th, there was an exhibition, and I examined a Russian Shahed, which, even compared to last year's models, had undergone significant improvements. Firstly, it has a mesh modem. Secondly, in the nose, there's a Chinese camera with three lenses (infrared, optoelectronic, and conventional), which allows it to display images to an operator in Russian territory via mesh modems," says the Ukrainian expert.
According to him, these systems aren't yet installed on all Russian drones, but the process of their deployment has begun. While previously only 5-10% of Russian drones were jet-powered, their number has now increased.
"Previously, we had the Geran-2 with a piston engine, the Geran-3 with a low-power jet engine, and the Geran-4 with a slightly more powerful jet engine. And now the Geran-5 has appeared, which has a speed of over 500 kilometers per hour, and our anti-aircraft drones can't cope with them anymore," complains Romanenko.
