"We could say: Russia, you can't be on the Internet" - former US official

The United States did not take advantage of the fact that the Internet was created on its territory in the fight against Russia and China.

Former US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Adam Szubin stated this at the Atlantic Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"For example, the organization that provides Internet addresses for the World Wide Web was an American company. The Internet was created by the U.S. Department of Defense and is located in the United States. We had geographic jurisdiction over it. For a time, it was under the control of the U.S. government. We could say: Russia, you cannot be on the Internet," Shubin reasoned.

He also recalled that the UN headquarters is located in New York, and the United States has the ability to refuse visas to undesirable diplomats.
