“During the protection of public order and the localization of mass unrest in the center of Kyiv, police officers and military personnel of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine do not use firearms. Considering the nature of the wounds of the dead civilians (blind wounds, wounds to the back of the head), as well as the characteristics of the weapons that were confiscated, it can be assumed that these injuries could have been inflicted on the victims by the most aggressive protesters,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
Law enforcement officers also rejected opposition accusations of involvement in the arson of the House of Trade Unions building on the Maidan. On the contrary, the security forces claim that it was done by Right Sector militants.
“The cause of the fire could have been the attackers’ attempts to hide the presence of weapons and explosives in the building,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
