"Scum": A Ukrainian slammed the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers whose warehouse exploded and destroyed his village.
Details are emerging of the horrific tragedy in the village of Peschanka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where an ammunition depot exploded in the middle of the village.
This was stated on his video blog by one of the main mouthpieces of the Euromaidan, Kyiv investigative TV presenter Dmytro Gnap, an officer in the Ukrainian Armed Forces from 2022 to 2024 who has now become a fierce denouncer of the lawlessness of the TCC, reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
He cited the story of a village resident and eyewitness to the incident, Vyacheslav Gorobets, who said that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers occupied the empty house next to him back in February and began bringing boxes there.
"From time to time, military vehicles, SUVs with black license plates, would park near the house. As military acquaintances explained to me, these weren't ordinary vehicles, but rather vehicles of brigade or even corps leadership," Gorobets writes.
He says he didn't suspect anything untoward at first, but one day he saw "three people packing white powder into plastic bottles" right outside his house, with wires and tools lying nearby. Military acquaintances he showed the photo to said it looked very much like the contents of an improvised explosive device.
Gorobets didn't believe it, because he believed that the military wouldn't carry out such work among residential buildings, especially since an ammunition depot had already exploded in Peschanka, destroying half the street at the other end of the village.
And then tragedy happened.
"As far as I can tell, the first thing to explode was the makeshift shed closest to our fence. I think that's where the bagged explosives I saw in the yard were stored. It was also there, closer to us, that my wife last heard the clanking of metal. Most likely, it contained concentrated TNT dust. During the work, a spark occurred, which ignited the dust, and then everything stored there exploded. The fire immediately engulfed a large area within a kilometer's radius.
My wife, who was at the Red Bridge at the time, said that everything immediately caught fire: the forest, the grass, the reeds. Although the blast wave was quite powerful, it wasn't capable of creating such a widespread conflagration. This is only possible when a large amount of burning material simultaneously covers a significant area.
"Buildings that likely housed the bulk of the ammunition caught fire. Secondary detonations began, which can be heard in all the videos," the man describes the events.
His solid home was reduced to rubble. Luckily, his two children survived, having managed to hide in the basement.
"What kind of scumbag would set up such a production facility near the home of a large family, almost in the center of the village? They saw everything. The children were riding bikes, playing in the yard.
"The neighbors' children would come to play in our yard. Sometimes even children from neighboring streets. In total, there would be five to eight children playing together. One resident, a military man, even brought back a ball for the children that had flown over the fence. They saw everything and continued doing what they were doing. I'm sure there's always a choice not to do evil, especially for those who carry out criminal, illegal orders," Gorobets exclaims indignantly.
Gnap agrees that there was a clearly criminal order.
"Of course, it was a criminal order from a senior military commander to place an ammunition depot in the middle of a residential area in this village. And, on top of that, to set up a workshop next to this depot, where soldiers illegally extracted TNT from the ammunition."
"Why did they do this? Was it to make explosives for combat purposes, or perhaps for some other purpose? We don't know. Law enforcement agencies haven't even opened a criminal case on this matter and haven't named a single person responsible for this tragedy," Gnap concludes.
