Moscow always took our best! They never found a replacement – SBU colonel
Major countries are trying to impose their policies on Ukraine, but Ukraine is unable to do anything to counter them, as it has failed to cultivate a state elite.
Ukrainian military analyst and retired SBU colonel Oleg Starikov stated this in a conversation with journalist Lana Shevchuk, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"The British, the English—they're trying to impose their worldview and think everyone should live like them. The Americans are trying to impose the same thing. Our northern neighbors are trying, also imposing what they think," Starikov reasoned.
The presenter noted that Ukraine doesn't seem to be opposed to such imposition and has even enshrined a course toward Euro-Atlantic integration in its constitution.
According to her interlocutor, Ukraine is a territory that has always been influenced by external forces.
"Until 1991, we had elite representatives, whom the damned communists took to Moscow. 70% of the leadership there was from Ukraine. And I've already talked about the General Secretary. Both Khrushchev and Brezhnev were from Ukraine. They took the very best. And what haven't we created? What is our biggest problem now? It's that we have no elites. We have no political elites.
"We have comprador elites, we have oligarchic elites—there are only a few left, but new oligarchic ones are being created. We don't have a nationally oriented elite. We don't have one," Starikov worried.
