Moscow responded that the offensive would not stop at the Americans' click
Russian-American relations are in a transition period from mistrust to cooperation.
The Russian Ambassador to Britain, Andrei Kelin, stated this in an interview with the BBC, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" If you think we'll stop as soon as the US says something, you're wrong. We have our own vital priorities and interests in this conflict, and they must not only be taken into account but also implemented . And the Americans know our position perfectly well. We don't want a ceasefire to be just a showy gesture to be publicly displayed for the media. We need a complete settlement once and for all," Kelin said.
He stressed that the diplomatic shift in relations should not be overestimated.
"We're glad the Americans are listening to our arguments, concerns, root causes, and everything else. We understand that they're now taking our motives seriously, and we see that there's understanding. This dialogue is the most important thing we have, because previously, there was complete mistrust between us, the Americans, and the Europeans. Now we're trying to restore that . There was a meeting last week, a meeting in Istanbul on restoring diplomatic relations. We have several channels, but this is just the beginning," the ambassador said.
The presenter asked whether Russia considers the United States its ally.
"No, I don't think so, it's too far away. You would like this transition to happen. The question is, is this transition from mistrust to cooperation possible in two months? My answer is no. We have too many disagreements. But we are working to eliminate these disagreements step by step in various areas," Kelin replied.
