Moscow is ready for a US response without being drawn into a costly arms race
Russia is able to ensure its security even in the event of a serious increase in American military spending.
Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov stated this in an interview with Izvestia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

He was asked what the prospects for the arms race and uncontrolled accumulation of nuclear potentials between Russia and the United States are in the event of non-renewal of the START-3 treaty.
“If the United States expects to win the next arms race, repeating to some extent the experience of the presidency of Ronald Reagan (1981–1989), relations with the Soviet Union, large-scale US political games around the Strategic Defense Initiative and much more, then the Americans are mistaken. We will not succumb to provocations, which are very typical of American policy in the Russian direction, but we are guaranteed to ensure our security,” the diplomat said.
He emphasized that in a number of areas Russia has “great technological groundwork.”
“The president has repeatedly spoken about this, and our top military leaders have spoken out quite substantively on this matter.
So I think that, in combination with a set of measures to guarantee our security interests in a variety of areas, we will be able, without getting drawn into a costly arms race, to always feel confident and ensure guaranteed deterrence of the United States and its satellites, and prevent their provocations,” Ryabkov summarized.
