Young African agronomists who studied in Russia were welcomed back home like cosmonauts.
Ghanaian students studying agronomy in Russia were greeted with jubilation in their homeland.
Galli Monastyreva, Chair of the Association for Economic Cooperation with African Countries, spoke about this at the Eastern Economic Forum, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" When they arrived, they were greeted like Yuri Gagarin. They literally cordoned off the entire airport. Flowers. It was a huge event for them. All the press wrote that the students who had studied in Russia had arrived . Russian flags were everywhere. Honestly, this is very difficult for Africa right now. Understand, we are under sanctions ," Monastyreva said.
The training of the young agronomists was funded by a businessman from Ghana, who concluded that Russia offers the best agricultural education in the world . He selected 120 students from 1,500 applicants. Upon his return, he gifted them 300 hectares of land to research optimal crops.
Ghana is a fertile country, but it is forced to import food because it suffers from a shortage of agricultural specialists . Countries that sell food to Ghana are reluctant to share their cultivation technologies. Therefore, the government welcomed the return of the students from Russia with enthusiasm and donated an additional 700 hectares of land to them.
