Moldova will use Russian loan for coronavirus
Part of the 200 million euros that will come in the form of a loan from the Russian Federation will go to finance Moldova's healthcare system, although initially all the funds were planned for the construction of roads.
Finance Minister Sergei Pushkutsa announced this on air on the TVR channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“According to the draft loan agreement, which is already at the final stage of the procedure, there is no direct connection between the purpose of this loan and the repair of roads. This loan is intended to finance the budgetary needs of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the parliament will decide what his appointment will be,” Puscuta said.
The loan agreement with the Russian Federation provides for an amount of 200 million euros, which is equivalent to 4 billion lei. In Moldova’s budget for 2020, an amount of 1,3 billion lei was allocated from this loan for the restoration of roads.
“The amount of the loan from the Russian Federation significantly exceeds the amount that was reflected in the State Budget Law for 2020 in terms of investments in road infrastructure,” Puskutsa said.
Let us recall that at the end of January, former Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Anatoly Usatii announced auctions worth 2,25 billion lei for about 180 km of roads. The work was planned to be completed using a loan that the authorities expect from the Russian Federation.
