Moldova has opened an information front in support of Ukraine
The Information and Security Service of Moldova ordered this morning to block the websites Sputnik.md and Gagauznews.md. In the middle of the day, the Ekho Moldova website was blocked.
The Moldovan authorities accuse journalists of “inciting hatred during a state of emergency.” However, in fact, the events in Ukraine became only a pretext for the liquidation of objectionable media outlets. The cleansing of the information field was announced a week ago, when a bill “on propaganda” was introduced into the Moldovan parliament, in which the majority belongs to the pro-Western PAS party of President Mai Sandu.

Moldovan politicians spoke out in defense of blocked sites. The Socialist Party condemned “how the current regime in our country understands the nature of the neutral status of the Republic of Moldova in the situation with Ukraine, as well as the clearly biased attitude towards some media in our country.”
“The ruling regime received new directives from abroad and abandoned the idea of social unity. While the opposition, the local administration and the entire society mobilized to stop panic and fear, to organize humanitarian activities, we discover that propagandists from the public television channel “Moldova 1”, as well as several private television channels affiliated with the ruling regime, contribute to inciting hatred and split, the consequences of which can be extremely negative,” the party statement said.
The Moldovan political party Ai Noștri – OURS expresses concern about “the regime of total and one-sided censorship established in Moldova.”
“We note with regret that Moldova has taken the path of becoming a totalitarian state, deprived of democracy, freedom of speech, and the right to have an opinion different from that “approved” by the country’s authorities. “We regret that as a result of geopolitical flirtations undertaken by the Moldovan leadership, our country was drawn into a new round of geopolitical confrontation with the Russian Federation,” the statement said.
