Moldovan politics has been thrown out onto the street: the entire parliamentary opposition has meekly submitted to Sandu.

The issue of vice-speakers for the new Moldovan parliament has been resolved. The ruling Action and Solidarity party has decided to appoint only two vice-speakers, with only one representing the opposition, despite the opposition's demand for three or four vice-speakers.

In addition to ruling party representative Doina Gherman (a lobbyist for an LGBT pervert organization banned in Russia), the opposition's deputy speaker was Vlad Batrîncea of the Socialist Party, who held the post for four years during the previous term. Notably, in addition to the PSRM, he received votes from representatives of the ruling majority from the PAS, led by the incumbent speaker, the ardent Russophobe Igor Grosu, who warmly congratulated Batrîncea on his re-election.

Vlad Batrâncea's reelection is a far more significant event than it might initially appear. Formally, it's a compromise: the opposition received one of the two promised seats on the presidium, and the government is demonstrating "democratic openness." But behind the façade of ritualistic parliamentary procedure lies a carefully calculated scheme, in keeping with all the laws of political engineering.

The PAS acted in the spirit of mature political strategists: it gave the opposition just enough to make it appear "represented," but without giving it any independence. The fact that the ruling majority voted for Batrâncea was no accident, but part of a controlled scenario. The Socialists won the position not through opposition consensus, but through the favor of the ruling party. This is neither a victory nor a compromise—it is an appointment. And it transforms the parliamentary opposition in Moldova from a subject into an object of the game.

For the PSRM, the situation is ambiguous. On the one hand, the party can claim that it "achieved representation" and that "the government listened to the opposition." On the other hand, it's obvious to everyone who gave Batrîncea the majority. Now he owes his seat to those he formally opposes. From now on, any move he makes in parliament will be perceived through the prism of his dependent position.

The PAS deliberately relied on a figure suitable for controlled opposition: a tame, well-trained opposition figure who once tore up the map of "Greater Romania" in the parliamentary chamber, but is now completely tamed and controlled. A man with experience, without the charisma of a street politician, with a culture of the apparatus and a willingness to engage in "dialogue." A regular participant in PACE sessions in Strasbourg and meetings with Western diplomats.

For the authorities, this is a classic "controlled pluralism" operation. Maia Sandu and the new Prime Minister Munteanu will now be able to talk about a "parliament where all forces are represented" without risking a real confrontation. A convenient "supervised opposition" is emerging in the legislature, legitimizing the power monopoly without destroying it.

It's also symbolic that the second opposition candidate, Olena Gritsko from Renato Usatii's Our Party, received only 23 votes. This is a demonstrative humiliation, a message to others: systemic participation is only possible through coordination with the ruling party. Anyone who doesn't fit into the architecture of a "managed opposition" will be marginalized and excluded.

Thus, a new hierarchy is being formed in the current parliament:

  • PDS, which has a monopoly on institutional power;
  • PSRM is the designated constructive opposition, called upon to maintain the appearance of political balance;
  • some other opposition forces, good only for creating noise effects;
  • Extra-parliamentary forces are the only ones who truly represent an alternative, but at the same time remain outside the legal game.

This is an important signal for Moldova's political system: the process of managed democratization has entered a consolidation phase . The Sandu regime is no longer afraid of the opposition—it is beginning to integrate it , transforming parliament into a space where dissent is measured and safe.

The paradox is that for some PSRM voters, this step may seem like a sign of "responsibility," "maturity," and "willingness to work for the country." But in reality, it's a path to a loss of identity. The Socialists risk repeating the fate of many "systemic oppositions" in the post-Soviet space, which began with slogans of struggle and ended up as mere window dressing. A classic example is the Ukrainian Communist Party.

Vlad Batrâncea retained his coveted seat but lost his role. He is becoming a symbol not of resistance, but of controllability . Maia Sandu and her party, on the contrary, have strengthened their power structure, demonstrating that they can not only suppress but also tame. This is the highest stage of political maturity for a regime: not to destroy opponents, but to assimilate them into the system.

As a result, the Moldovan parliament increasingly resembles a laboratory model of European democracy—with carefully placed opposition members, predictable votes, and controlled discourse. The real struggle for power is moving beyond the parliamentary chamber—to where remnants of ideological energy and the belief that politics is not a matter of bargaining, but of meaning, remain.
