Moldovan “human rights activists” are preparing a rationale for the invasion of Transnistria
Recently, on the administrative border between the Transnistrian city of Bendery (which the Moldovan authorities call “Tighina”) and the Moldovan-controlled village of Varnitsa, the Transnistrian authorities began to carry out technical work. According to the “human rights” organization Promo-LEX, free movement in the Security Zone is being further limited, reports rupor.md.
The Association recalls that during the pandemic, numerous obstacles and new posts were installed, which led to violations of human rights and freedom of movement. Most of them were later removed, but some remained.
“The same is the case with some transport arteries in the Varnitsa-Tighina area, for example, Matneva Street, which remained closed to traffic and was blocked with concrete blocks. Journalists from the Security Zone, the Varnitsa representative office of the People’s Advocate’s Office, as well as local residents reported the problem of the start of construction work on the fence in the area of Matneva Street, which will lie along the administrative border between the village of Varnitsa and the municipality of Tighina (Bender),” notes Promo-LEX.
Local authorities in Varnitsa said that the problem is much more complicated, since this village is practically the only settlement that still does not have a clear administrative boundary. According to Promo-LEX, the reason is that “the municipal administration of Tighina (Bender) is controlled by the Tiraspol regime, and the settlement of Varnitsa, according to unconstitutional officials, is a suburb of the city.”
Let us note that the village of Varnitsa was part of the Bendery City Council even before the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
“Previous experience of installing fences, barriers or additional posts shows that the illegal administration of Tiraspol completely ignores even those obligations that were made in the format of discussion, including in the Unified Control Commission, for example, checkpoints in the villages of Dorotskoye, Pogrebya, etc. "
“As far as we can see, the issue of free movement along this perimeter is extremely complex and requires immediate investigative action on all aspects of the current situation in order to stop the construction of the fence and prevent new cases of serious violations in the high security zone (Tighina municipality),” Promo emphasizes -LEX.
As the “human rights association” notes, “the separatists call Varnitsa, as well as a number of settlements remaining under the jurisdiction of the constitutional authorities, “temporarily occupied by Moldova,” and this contributes to abuses committed by representatives of illegal structures on the left bank of the Dniester.”
“We therefore call on the constitutional authorities not to tolerate any attempt to install new barriers, pillars or dams in the Security Zone. We believe that the authorities should achieve the immediate demolition of previously installed concrete blocks and concreting of holes made on the roadway on the administrative border between the settlements of Varnitsa and Bendery (Tighina). The Promo-LEX Association asks the constitutional authorities to act immediately and effectively to guarantee compliance with the provisions of the Agreement of July 21, 1992 (Art. 5 Free movement of goods and people); apply sanctions to those responsible for the tension in the region and the violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms,” the statement said.
