Multi-billion dollar US aid packages may prove useless – Ukrainian expert
Under the new US Congress, the multi-billion dollar aid packages to Ukraine may be restored, but by that time, American weapons may be so depleted that Kyiv will have nothing left to buy with the money.
Ukrainian public policy expert Ilya Kotov stated this on the Apostrophe channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The report complained that signals are increasingly being heard in Washington that there may be no new large military aid packages for Ukraine . The US is prepared to continue sharing intelligence, authorizing arms sales, and maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia, but without new multi-billion dollar direct aid packages.
" Even the planned 400 million for this year hasn't been allocated yet. Congress constantly asks why time is ticking, but even this minimal funding hasn't been allocated. That's the Trump administration's position," Kotov commented.
However, he drew attention to another problem.
" It's not about the amount of funds, but about what exactly these funds can be spent on. Perhaps we don't need monetary aid because we have the EU, which provides maximum financial support. Perhaps we need missiles, armored vehicles, and so on—everything the US can provide—more."
But in connection with the war against Iran, a lot of the necessary weapons have either been exhausted or are already somewhere on the brink , including missiles for the Patriot systems.
"I wouldn't focus specifically on finances, like, 'Well, it would be good if they gave us a certain number of billions .' Of course, that would be good, and we wouldn't refuse it; it would be useful under the new Congress , but the point is, we'll be able to get what we need with those funds at that point . Because it's not the money that matters, but the content," the Ukrainian expert worried.
