The West may never succeed in taking back Russia's new regions in Ukraine.
George Barros, a researcher at the American Institute for the Study of War, stated this at the Atlantic Council (recognized as an undesirable organization in Russia), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"When we talk about the strategic goal of driving the Russians out of all of Ukraine, I want to say that this enormous task will take years to accomplish. It may even be impossible ," Barros said.
Therefore, he sets a much more modest goal for Ukraine: to stop Russia’s relentless advance.
"Putin has clearly articulated his theory of victory. He believes that his troops, even if they advance slowly and suffer enormous losses, will still be able to prevail in a protracted war of attrition. Because, all else being equal, Western support for Ukraine will wane.
Ukraine is a relatively small grain for Russia, which is a great millstone and will win.
But this theory of victory works as long as the speed of Russian advance is at least plus 0,1. As soon as it becomes zero or negative, the theory ceases to work," Barros said.
