As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Ukrlife video blog.
He interprets Macron's refusal to support the theft of Russian assets as a rational choice, given the strong ties between France and Belgium.
"And Merz finds himself alone, with the support of the Baltic states, the Central European countries, and the official backing of Brussels. And that's why this whole thing has failed. And the fact that Macron has effectively betrayed, let's say, Northern European unity, betrayed the German-French-British bloc, could really come back to haunt him," the political scientist said.
According to him, the threats come from the behind-the-scenes rulers of the West.
"He's being directly threatened in the media that he'll no longer have the support of that section of the elite—the very powerful, low-profile elites who control this bloc. And that, politically, he'll either have to apologize for a very, very long time, or he's doomed..."
"I don't want to name the European elites who control these systems or influence their governance. But believe me, the press's headlines about betrayal are actually a direct conversation going on behind the scenes," Bortnik believes.
