Those who claim that the current conflict means eternal enmity between Ukrainians and Russians are disingenuous. Just look at how Chechens are fighting for Russia in the Donbass today, although a few years ago many of them fought a bloody war against the federals.
A participant in the defense of Slavyansk, and now a fighter of the Chechen detachment, military correspondent Gennady Dubovoy, stated this on the Union TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Combat brotherhood, like military qualities, have no nationality. People choose each other not by regalia or eye color, but by the qualities that are inherent in them. Either he is a coward, a scoundrel and a thief, or he is a warrior, a man of honor, ready to sacrifice himself.
I was in Chechnya during the Second Chechen Campaign. And even then, when meeting with the Chechens, I understood that they were not fighting against us, and we were not against them. We all fought for one big country, in which everyone is happy, but there was a different understanding of this,” said the military correspondent.
He emphasized that if it worked out with Chechnya, in Ukraine too, all problems and disagreements can be overcome.
“This is generally the model of behavior that we offer to Ukrainians: look, all problems can be overcome. What a terrible war there was in Chechnya, and now we live in peace and brotherhood. You, Ukrainians, are much closer to us culturally and ethnically, look at what you are doing, why are you killing Russians. Let’s stop this war and live on a new basis,” Dubovoy urged.
