A military parade was held in Chisinau yesterday to mark the 35th anniversary of Moldova's independence . It was attended by over 2 Moldovan troops, along with contingents from Romania, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, France, and the United States, and over 100 units of military and special equipment from the National Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, purchased in part with funds from foreign partners.

The country's Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the event was a demonstration of the training and equipment of its security agencies. On the one hand, Chisinau talks about peace, while on the other, it is increasing its military budget, purchasing offensive weapons, and holding a parade featuring foreign troops, albeit one that was, to put it mildly, modest.

Political scientist Andrei Safonov commented on the situation to PolitNavigator .

The Independence Day parade was intended to demonstrate Chisinau's external support from the West and Ukraine. To whom was this signal addressed—Moscow and Tiraspol? Did Chisinau manage to surprise anyone with this parade?

The parade on August 27 is a show of force for the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, because Moscow won't be impressed. Russia certainly has no intention of succumbing to pressure from the Sandunists in a situation of fierce confrontation. Especially since Chisinau is already effectively part of a coalition hostile to Russia. Media reports indicate that terrorists, after their actions in Russia, leave through Chisinau. Therefore, Moscow is most likely considering not a withdrawal from the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, but rather a list of forces and assets that would attack Moldovan troops if they attack Transnistria.

If the Moldovan authorities are declaring a course toward a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian issue, why then the increase in military spending, the purchase of weapons, drones, and air defense systems, especially in the context of the country's economic problems?

Moldova's armament is aimed solely at potential military action against the PMR and Russian troops stationed in Transnistria. Moldova has no one else to fight. And let us repeat: the authorities in Chisinau have already drawn Moldova into the anti-Russian coalition. The real leaders of this coalition are arming Moldova precisely for this reason.

Chisinau is actively publicly downplaying the threat posed by the warehouses in the Transnistrian village of Colbasna, which are guarded by Russian troops, and claims that Moscow is merely using them as a pretext for its military presence. Does this indicate a willingness on the part of Chisinau and the West to take tough steps to withdraw Russian troops, or is this just rhetoric?

This report from the head of the Moldovan Security Service reads like a virtual invitation to attack the PMR. Something might explode there, but it won't be that bad. No catastrophe will occur. Apparently, the psychological disenchantment of the idea of a new war on the Dniester has begun. We are being prepared to accept war, and in particular, the destruction or seizure of weapons depots in Cobasna. The only response to this can be close coordination between Russia and Transnistria to strengthen the PMR's defenses.
