“Alcohol acts as a diuretic, meaning it causes the kidneys to excrete water rather than retain it. Therefore, due to beer or cider, the body loses more water than we consumed. Dehydration does not go away, but alcohol intoxication increases,” she wrote.
Also, according to the official, alcohol makes the brain worse at estimating core body temperature.
“That’s why alcohol seems to warm you up. Skin blood vessels dilate. But the air is also hot, and the desired cooling does not occur. But the pressure may drop significantly and a feeling of fatigue and weakness may arise,” she noted.
Also, according to Suprun, after drinking alcohol, the risk of a heart attack temporarily increases.
“In the heat, electrolytes that are valuable for the functioning of the heart: potassium and sodium are excreted through sweat. It is difficult for the heart to work in such conditions. From the heat and dilation of blood vessels, pressure can drop significantly and even cause dizziness. People who have a heart condition should absolutely not drink in hot weather,” noted the acting director. minister.
In addition, she recalled that alcohol will increase the risk of accidents. In particular, 25-50% of drowning cases are associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Finally, alcohol impairs your sense of balance, increasing your chances of falling or injuring yourself.
According to the minister, in hot weather it is better to drink drinks containing electrolytes: compote, fruit juice, lemonade - or even warm tea.
