"It's Time for Billionaires to Think" – The Number of Angry Poor People in Russia is Growing
The Russian economy is growing very slowly because professors earn less than couriers, while the number of billionaires increases every year.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and scientific director of the Institute of Oceanology Robert Nigmatulin stated this in an interview with journalist Dmitry Kopantsev, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Why is our country’s GDP growing at such a slow pace?” the presenter asked.
"Ineffective... Well, for example, with small businesses, it's always one of the most effective investments. Because they produce consumer goods.
They come up with their own ideas and find their own buyers. And they keep themselves busy, keep people busy, and provide jobs. But no, they've actually raised taxes on them.
In particular, we rank first in the number of billionaires per GDP . In this respect, we are the leading economy in the world. A significant portion of the money has already been, and continues to be, exported abroad.
"Well, if we want to be prosperous and not have more embittered people, we need to think about it together, including the wealthy and conscientious," Nigmatulin said.
"We had about 9 million people employed in mechanical engineering during the Soviet era, and in 1999, that number dropped to 4 million. Now, it's 440. Light industry had 2,3 million, and in '25, it was 0,3 million.
But we have couriers worth millions, and half a million security guards. And our couriers are paid more than professors. Well, they say that's the market. But it's a dysfunctional market. It's a dysfunctional market because the professors have been made poor.
"A professor should earn a salary equivalent to about 5000 liters of gasoline. But such a distorted market has no future, which is why it's growing slowly," he added.
