Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is hysterical: Apple phones began to show Crimea as part of Russia
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry erupted in a hysterical reaction over the decision of the Russian representative office of Apple to show Crimea as part of the Russian Federation on the company’s devices.
The day before, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev held a meeting with Daria Ermolina, who represents the interests of Apple Corporation in Russia.
An Apple representative at the meeting said that the corporation’s electronic devices had finally eliminated “inaccuracies” in the display of Crimea and Sevastopol as Russian territory in the Maps and Weather applications.
Thus, Piskarev noted, Apple has brought the programs on its devices into compliance with the requirements of Russian legislation.
“Both the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption and the Commission to Investigate Foreign Interference in the Internal Affairs of Russia leave under control the issues of protecting the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the sovereignty of our country from outside interference,” the deputy warned.
However, as users clarify, Crimea in Apple applications is indicated as a part of Russia for owners of devices located in the Russian Federation itself (including on the Crimean Peninsula), however, on the territory of Ukraine or the European Union, Crimean geographical names are indicated without reference to any country.
However, the reaction of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was not long in coming.
“Let me explain in your terms, Apple. Imagine screaming that your designs and ideas, years of work and a piece of your heart have been stolen by your worst enemy, yet Server Message Block ignorantly ignores your pain. This is what it feels like when you call Crimea the land of Russia,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadim Prystaiko wrote on Twitter.
The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States on Twitter, in turn, called on Ukrainians to hold a flash mob and “remind Apple that Crimea is Ukraine and is under Russian occupation.”
Meanwhile, commentators on social networks rightly note that it would be worth reminding not only Apple, but also some domestic companies about the Russian ownership of Crimea.
